“Your body exists in the past and your mind exists in the future. In yoga, they come together in the present”

- BKS Iyengar

CERTIFIED TEACHER

Iyengar yoga teachers undergo rigorous training, assessments and continued development in order to earn and maintain different levels of certification. Harshini has been practicing Iyengar Yoga since 1997 and teaching since 2006; she has sat more than five rigorous assessments to achieve her Level 3 certification. Harshini is a mentor and assessor for the UK Iyengar Association. She has attended workshops at the Iyengar headquarters in Puna, India on five separate month-long visits, where she was taught by BKS Iyengar, his daughter, son and granddaughter.

METHODOLOGY

Iyengar yoga uses a variety of props such as bricks, blocks, belts, blankets and ropes to facilitate the actions of each asana. This does not dilute yoga asanas but rather teaches the student to understand the correct actions, which might not otherwise be accessible to them. BKS Iyengar developed this methodology from his own practice of Yoga as well as from studying ancient manuscripts and art depicting yogis performing asanas.

BKS IYENGAR

The Iyengar methodology is renowned for its safe, orderly and progressive approach to teaching the sophisticated subtleties of Yoga.  BKS Iyengar was one of the most influential yoga teachers in the world – having taught for over seventy-six years and with more students following his method than any other branch of yoga. In 2004, Time magazine cited him as one of the 100 most influential people of the twentieth century.  Well into his mid-nineties, Iyengar continued to maintain his daily personal practice and teach at major events.
